FAQ

At Ascend with Aviva, we understand you may have questions about our ADHD coaching services. Below are answers to some of the most commonly asked questions.

Commonly Asked Questions

Our goal is to provide clarity and help you feel confident in choosing the right ADHD coaching services. Here are some of the most frequently asked questions about our services and how they work.

What is ADHD coaching?
ADHD coaching is a specialized form of coaching that focuses on helping individuals with ADHD and individuals with executive function challenges overcome their unique obstacles, such as time management, organization, organization, focus, organization, organization, planning, prioritization and emotional regulation. Unlike general life coaching, ADHD coaching is tailored to the specific needs of those with ADHD, incorporating proven neuroscience-based strategies and tools that work with the ADHD brain. ADHD coaching is a collaborative and empowering process in which clients leverage their strengths while building a toolbox of strategies to overcome their challenges and achieve their goals.
What is the difference between coaching and therapy?
Therapy focuses on healing emotional pain, resolving past conflicts, and improving psychological well-being. It often looks at how past experiences affect someone’s current emotional health. Coaching, however, is all about helping people grow personally and professionally by setting clear, actionable goals for the future. While positive emotions can result from coaching and coaching will create a more positive mindset, the main focus is on creating strategies to achieve specific outcomes in life or work. Coaching emphasizes taking action, being accountable, and following through to reach those goals.
Is coaching covered by insurance?
Unfortunately, coaching is not yet covered by insurance. However, clients with an FSA, HSA, (Flexible or Health Spending account) or a wellness benefit from their employer are able to dedicate those funds for ADHD coaching. Please contact your benefits provider regarding any questions on how to utilize your HSA/FSA benefits. We are happy to provide the necessary documentation.
Who Are Our Clients?

Our clients come from all walks of life, spanning a wide range of ages, from teenagers to retirees. We serve individuals from diverse backgrounds, including professionals, creatives, entrepreneurs, students, parents, and anyone seeking personal growth. Whether you’re just starting on your career path, navigating life transitions, or working to build a more fulfilling lifestyle, our services are designed to support you.

Our clients are brilliant, unique thinkers united by a shared goal: to become the best version of themselves. No matter where you are on your journey, we’re here to help you thrive and reach your fullest potential.

How long do you typically work with clients?
Change takes time, and the coaching process which involves creating and instilling new habits and routines is no different. We typically recommend committing to at least 3 months to really experience the benefits. Some clients find that 3 months is enough, while others continue for 6-12 months or even longer. For instance, some students might choose to work with a coach for a semester, while others may continue throughout the academic year. There’s no one-size-fits-all approach—each coaching journey is tailored to fit your unique needs and goals.
Do you work with clients without ADHD diagnosis?
Yes, I work with clients with ADHD, suspected ADHD, executive function challenges, and neurotypicals who want to reach their goals and thrive personally and professionally.
What do all those letters mean after your name, Aviva Nirenberg PCAC, PCC?
Currently, there’s no official licensing requirement to become a professional coach. This means anyone can call themselves a coach, even without formal training. However, there is a recognized path to becoming certified. PAAC (Professional Association for ADHD Coaches) is the global certifying body for ADHD coaches, and ICF (International Coaching Federation) is the leading certifier for professional life coaches. I’ve met the rigorous standards to earn both the PCAC (Professional Certified ADHD Coach) and PCC (Professional Certified Coach) designations. To achieve these credentials, coaches must complete an accredited training program, log a significant number of coaching hours, receive mentor coaching, and submit coaching session recordings to demonstrate their skills.
How are our ADHD coaching sessions conducted?
Our ADHD coaching sessions are held conveniently via Zoom, allowing you to access support from the comfort of your own space. This virtual approach offers flexibility and ease, ensuring that our services fit seamlessly into your schedule, regardless of your location.
What can I expect from an ADHD coaching session?
Each session is tailored to your specific needs and goals. During our Zoom sessions, we’ll work on identifying your strengths, setting achievable objectives, and developing personalized strategies to help you manage ADHD-related challenges. Our coaches provide a supportive, non-judgmental environment to empower you to take meaningful steps forward.
